As expected, Disney Solitaire comes to Windows Phone 8

Disney Solitaire

Last month Disney released Disney Solitaire for Windows 8 with word that a Windows Phone 8 version would be released soon. We are happy to report that "soon" happened today with the release of the Windows Phone 8 version of Disney Solitaire.

Disney Solitaire does feature saving your game progress to OneDrive, which will allow to pick up things where you left off from a Windows 8 device.

Disney Solitaire

The Windows Phone version of Disney Solitaire shares the same features as the Windows 8 version. Game play is centered around two Disney worlds, Peter Pan's Neverland and the Lion King's Pride Rock, and has two gaming modes (Adventure and Free Play).

Additional gaming features include:

  • 120 levels of game play
  • Classic music and clips from each movie
  • Unlock unique animated power-ups featuring your favorite characters such as Nala, the Lost Boys and more
  • Use in-game boosts to move past obstacles and the Adventure Mode levels

The only downside we can see to Disney Solitaire is that it lacks a trial version. Otherwise, it comes across as an entertaining game and a nice addition to the card game genre.

Disney Solitaire

The full version of Disney Solitaire is currently running $1.99 and the game is available for Windows Phone 8 devices. You can find Disney Solitaire here in the Windows Phone Store.

The Windows 8 version of Disney Solitaire is currently running $4.99 (no free trial here either) and you can pick that version up here in the Windows Store.

Thanks, Kevin, for the tip!

Disney's JellyCar 3 and Lost Light

Disney seems to be on a roll lately releasing several Windows Phone 8 games over the past week. We've seen Maleficent Free Fall and Disney Solitaire already hit Store shelves and today we are seeing the Disney gaming titles Lost Light and JellyCar 3 arrive in the Windows Phone Store.

JellyCar 3 and Lost Light have been available for a while over on iOS and Android platforms and it is nice to see Disney giving the Windows Phone platform more attention. Both games look interesting and if you prefer your gaming from a larger screen, both have Windows 8 versions available as well.

Lost Light

Lost Light

Lost Light is a puzzle adventure where you journey to the heart of the Enchanted Forest and help restore the light hidden away by the wicked Beasties. Game play is a matching game with a numbers twist.

The game has 225 levels of play, 9 unique puzzle challenges and 3 power-ups that will help you survive the puzzle challenges.

Lost Light lacks a trial version with the Windows Phone 8 version currently running $1.99. The Windows 8 version of Lost Light also lacks a trial version and will cost you $4.99.

JellyCar 3

JellyCar 3 is a racing game where you are behind the wheel of a squishy car trying to navigate through squishy worlds. You race through the fifty levels of game play trying to make it from the starting line to the finishing line.

JellyCar 3

Platform obstacles move, rotate and trigger special effects that you will have to navigate around, soar over with the Balloon ability, and climb over with sticky tires. You can even tap the care to make it grow.

JellyCar 3 also has car customizations where you can give your JellyCar a custom color, style and sound effects.

As with Lost Light, JellyCar 3 lacks a trial version with the Windows Phone 8 version currently running $1.99. The Windows 8 version of JellyCar 3 also lacks a trial version and is currently running $4.99.

Disney's classic 'Castle of Illusion' jumps from Sega to Windows Phone and Windows 8.1

Castle of Illusion

Disney and Microsoft have been rolling out the hits lately, introducing three new games in the last few days, including Lost Light, Jelly Car 3 and Disney Solitaire. This morning, the classic Mickey Mouse game ‘Castle Of Illusion’ arrives on Windows Phone and Windows 8.1, making it quite the combo.

Castle of Illusion came out for iOS and Android late last year, so while the game is not brand new, it’s not that old either. Clearly Microsoft and Disney have a partnership going where they’re bringing all new (and older) titles over to the Windows ecosystem, something that should sit well for those with children.

What can you expect from Castle of Illusion? Over at Microsoft’s Fire Hose, they describe the game thusly:

“The evil witch Mizrabel has kidnapped Minnie Mouse and taken her to the castle, where Mickey must seek her out. Mickey must travel through enchanted forests, take on armies of rebellious toys and navigate mazes of living books – all in search of his captive sweetheart. There are five magical worlds filled with Mizrabel’s powerful minions, twists and turns, and hidden challenges to uncover and master.”

It sure sounds like a wild ride, especially for fans of the classic game now re-imagined for tablets, PCs and your phone.  Check out the trailer for the game to get an idea of what to expect.

Castle of Illusion

That’s the good news; the bad news is both pricing and the lack of trial. For the Windows version, you’re looking at a $14.99 price tag, while Windows Phone is still a super expensive $9.99, (and no, these are not even Xbox Live titles). Throw in the fact that there is no trial for either version, and we’re not sure how many of you will blindly jump at this offer.

In anticipation of your complaints, we’ll be working on a demo video of both games in the next day, so sit tight, and we’ll give you our initial thoughts and impressions.

Castle of Illusion

  • Download Castle of Illusion for Windows 8.1 ($14.99) – 470 MB
  • Download Castle of Illusion for Windows Phone 8 ($9.99) – 467 MB; Needs 1 GB of RAM or more!

Castle of Illusion

Castle of Illusion lets you play as Mickey Mouse in this classic game re-imagined for tablets, PCs, and phones. It has been available on iOS and Android since late last year, but we’re glad that we can now play it on Windows and Windows Phone devices.

Priced at $14.99 and $9.99 without any free trial at the Windows and Windows Phone Store, you’re probably wondering if it’s worth it. We’ve spent some time with both versions of the game, so head past the break to see some gameplay.

Features:

  • Play as Mickey Mouse in this reimagining of the classic Sega Genesis/Mega Drive game.
  • Experience a world of wonder, brought to life with all-new graphics and magical adventures.
  • Journey across five magical worlds filled with Mizrabel’s powerful minions.
  • Complete hidden challenges to customize Mickey with classic costumes.

Castle of Illusion

Mickey has to travel through enchanted forests, take on armies of rebellious toys and navigate mazes of living books to find Minnie. Using the touchscreen display, you can move with the virtual joystick on the left side of the screen. The green jump button is on the right side of the display. The red button is to throw items.

Press and hold the jump button to jump higher. You can also jump on enemies’ head to bounce higher. We were also able to play using the Surface Pro Type Cover on the Surface Pro 3. Spacebar is jump, while Ctrl is throw. Use the directional keys are for moving.

Castle of Illusion

The top left corner shows up to 5 stars. When an enemy hits Mickey, a star disappears and he continues playing from where he was hit. When Mickey runs out of stars, it takes away 1 statue, which is the number below the stars. If Mickey runs out of statues, you go back to the beginning of the level.

The mixture of 2D and 3D graphics is very satisfying. It brings back memories of Crash Bandicoot. The music is playful and doesn’t feel repetitive. There’s also a narrator that makes you feel like you’re a character inside a book.

Castle of Illusion

The bosses are tough in Castle of Illusions, but you can simply keep trying. The first boss requires you to jump on its head a few times, while avoiding getting stomped on or being rolled over. After defeating the bosses, you collect Rainbow Gems, so you can form the Rainbow Bridge required to cross over to Mizrabel’s tower. We don’t want to spoil too much for you, so if the game sounds interesting so far, you should go ahead and get it.

Castle of Illusion

Castle of Illusion’s simple run and jump gameplay makes it an awesome time-waster.  While you can play it on a Windows tablet with just a touchscreen display, we find it more convenient to use the physical keys on a keyboard. It’s also great on Windows Phone. In fact, it feels better to control Mickey on the smaller screen.

Castle of Illusion

Castle of Illusions costs $14.99 for the Windows 8.1 version and $9.99 for the Windows Phone version. We don’t like that it costs more than most games and doesn’t provide a free trial, but this game is actually quite enjoyable. If you are looking for something new to play, we think you should go ahead with the purchase.

Disney's Words of Wonder

Last week, Disney released yet another game for Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 devices - Words of Wonder. The game is word search game that has a match three game ( Maleficent Free Fall, Frozen Free Fall, etc.) feel about it.

The game has you following the Disney character Watson the Owl as he fights the grey curse that is erasing the color from his storybook. You use the power of words to unlock bonus items and restore the color to the book.

Words of Wonder is a simple, yet challenging for players of all ages and a nice addition to the Disney Windows 8/Windows Phone gaming collection.

Words of Wonder's Layout

With Words of Wonder is available for both Window Phone 8 and Windows 8, we are going to approach things a little different by looking at the Windows 8 version for this review. Both versions or the game are virtually identical, so it's not a very radical departure.

The layout is simple and straightforward with the game centered on the storybook map. The game's storybook has sixteen chapters that contain over seventy levels of play. The first few levels will have Watson the Owl guide you through game play and as new gaming features become available, Watson will appear to walk you through the new features.

Words of Wonder Storybook

At the top of the storybook map you have the gear cog the will drop down the settings menu (sound/music on or off, help section, exit the map) with your energy and gold levels displayed next to the settings cog. Energy is used to access each level and is replenished as you successfully complete a level, with time or you can convert gold into energy. Gold is used to unlock additional maps, buy boosts and re-charge your energy levels. You begin the game with 25 gold bars and can add more to your inventory through In-App Purchases.

Words of Wonder IAP

As long as you complete the levels on the first try, your energy level shouldn't be an issue in that you seem to earn back the energy you use to play the level, when you complete it. However, if you fail a level then you will see your energy levels drop. If you don't want to fool with IAP, energy levels will increase over time.

Words of Wonder Game Play

Game play follows suit with Words of Wonder's simple layout. You are presented with a playing board filled with lettered tiles. You are tasked with created words by tracing adjacent letters (vertically, horizontally or diagonally). Words have to be at least three letters long and as you create a word, the tiles are removed from the playing board, with new letters falling from the top of the board.

Words of Wonder Tutorial

Each level has a goal to reach in a set number of moves or before time runs out. The goals range from collecting a number of letter tiles, removing all the tiles stained with ink, dropping items off the bottom of the game board and more. Boosts become available that will aid you in your quest such as adding bonus moves or shuffle the tiles around.

The game screen for Words of Wonder has your statistics displayed across the top of the screen that includes your move count or timer, a progress bar charting your objective, a display of any boosts available. Your score is displayed at the bottom of the screen and as you create words, a banner will appear spelling the word out as you connect the letters. The game board rest center screen and comes in a variety of shapes and styles.

Words of Wonder Game Screen

Once you've reached your goal, Watson will appear to launch a Word Burst, which will award you bonus points (much like the Free Fall portion of Disney's match-three games). Each level has a target score to reach and the closer you get, the more stars you are awarded. Levels can be re-played to better your score and increase your cumulative star count.

Overall Impression

The more I played Words of Wonder the more the game grew on me. The limitation on the number of moves you have to complete your goal requires a little strategy and when you're racing the clock, it calls for a quick eye and hand. Words of Wonder may come across as too easy of a game for some and I have to admit the first handful of levels are a little on the easy side. However, if you are a little patient the game picks up in challenge around level ten.

The Windows Phone 8 version plays just like the Windows 8 version, you just have a smaller screen to play from. The challenge does seem to pick up a little quicker with the Windows Phone 8 version though.

Words of Wonder Windows Phone Screens

While you do have in-app purchase opportunities, you can live without them. Boost become available as you progress through the levels. You may have to sit the game aside for a little while so your energy can replenish but that only gives the game life a little more longevity. Still, I would have liked to have seen a way to earn gold during game play to avoid the in-app purchases completely.

All in all, Words of Wonder is a fun, casual game that is a good choice for those times you need a little help passing the time. The game is appealing for all ages and I can see it being a fun game for the younger crowd that can double as a spelling lesson of sorts. I can Words of Wonder coming in handy at the restaurant while waiting on a table or sitting poolside. Words of Wonder is a puzzle game well worth checking out from both platforms.

Disney Hidden Worlds Review: I Spy with a Magic Kingdom flair

Disneys Hidden Worlds

Disney's Hidden Worlds hit the Windows Phone Store late last month and challenges you to find objects hidden in plain sight. A game of I Spy of sorts that takes you to three different worlds based on three Disney stories.

The story behind the game has you protecting the worlds of Beauty and the Beast, Tangled and Aladdin from a mysterious villain who is threatened these worlds' existence. You team up with Chrona and the Inklings to keep these worlds safe and restore their story lines.

While the game is fun with Hidden Worlds, I couldn't help but feel navigation could have been a little less busy. Nonetheless, Disney's Hidden Worlds has plenty of picture puzzles to solve and, overall, is a fun title to add to your Windows Phone gaming library.

Hidden Worlds Layout

Hidden Worlds has a user-friendly layout that sends you directly into game play from the get go. When you launch the game, you immediately meet Chrona who is seems to be the caretaker of the three worlds involved in the game. Along with a band of misfits, the Inklings, Chrona protects these worlds from danger and keeps things running smoothly.

Disney Hidden Worlds

A dark ink (that looks like fog) falls over these three worlds and a mysterious villain is threatening to disrupt these three stories. Chrona greets you from the start of the game and walks you through game play rather intensely over the first few missions. Chrona and the Inklings will maintain a presence throughout the game, leaving very little guesswork with missions. Which is a good thing in that there is not a help section that you can tap into for reference or how-to directions.

You still have to do the heavy lifting in finding the hidden objects in the various picture puzzles.

Hidden Worlds

Speaking of which, each picture puzzle represents a key movie moment from the Beauty and the Beast, Tangled or Aladdin. Each picture will have over fifty hidden objects that you'll need to identify through various missions. There will be puzzle where you are given a word description of the item you have to find or a thumbnail section of the picture you have to identify.

Worlds View

The game has a few menu displays that are more or less world maps. There is the Worlds View that displays all three worlds you must protect, the individual view of each world and Inkspire. Across the top of each menu view, you will find your experience points/level, your energy level and your gem counts. Energy is used to take on missions and both gems and energy can be purchased through in-app purchase opportunities that range from $.99 to $99. Fortunately, your energy will be replenished over time and as long as you pace yourself, you should be able to avoid the IAPs.

Hidden Worlds World Map

Gaming world views are laid out in similar fashion with missions or quests line the left side of the screen. In the bottom right corner of the screen, you will find options to visit your Friends hub, visit the craft center and find a mission to play. The Friends Hub is where you can chat with Facebook Friends and gift items or energy.

Hidden Worlds Inkspire

You also have an Inkspire Button that sits about mid-way up the right side of the screen that sends you to Chrona's world that serves as a gaming summary area. Tap on each section of Chrona's world to pull up gaming stats, missions that need to be completed and more.

Hidden Worlds Game Play

Hidden World Challenges

Game play with Hidden Worlds isn't very complicated but has many facets. You have to tackle a series of missions or quests to restore order to the world you are visiting. Along the way you will collect items that can be used to craft items that will also help you restore the story line of the world.

The primary game is where you are presented with a picture and have to identify hidden objects from within. You do have hints available and the quicker you solve the puzzles, the higher your score.

Hidden Worlds hidden object game

Find the object and tap on the screen to pull it out of play. The game does register taps that are not correct so you'll need to be careful at randomly guessing. If you get stumped, there are hints available to highlight the area of the picture you need to concentrate on.

Hidden Worlds

As you solve the puzzles, you will earn items (ink, paper, etc.) that will be used to craft special items to lead characters back on script or to upgrade buildings to restore them to their old selves before damaged by the ink fog.

Hidden Worlds Craft Screen

You may find yourself tackling the same puzzle twice to build up your inventory to craft the needed items or upgrade a building so you can advance to the next mission. As you advance through the game or re-play the same picture puzzle, the difficulty of finding items increases. Luckily, you can zoom into the picture to help you find the items.

Again, you final score is based on the accuracy of finding the items, the speed in which it is done and any consecutive items you discovered. The more points, the more stars you earn and the more items you can earn as well.

Overall Impression

Disney's Hidden Worlds is a fun, challenging game but game play seemed to be all over the place at times. While there is game structure, if Chrona didn't pop-in to make sure you were headed in the right direction I could see players getting frustrated and lose interest quick.

Hidden Worlds isn't a terribly hard game to figure out, there is just a lot to digest.

As far as game performance goes, the puzzles are well drawn up and challenging. The only nit I have is that at times the touch screen can be a little difficult. There were times I would have to double or triple tap an item before the screen recognized things. You do hear a little jingle when you tap the right item but I would like to see some form of feedback on a wrong choice as well to avoid constantly tapping an item.

Hidden Worlds Windows 8

I've gotten used to Disney's IAP's and have learned to pace my game play. While the energy supply is limited, it will replenish in time and to avoid the IAPs all you need to do is pace yourself. This will also help the game from growing stale too quickly or you finishing all the missions too soon.

While I wouldn't mind seeing a better organized menu structure as long as Chrona is around I cannot complain too loud. Overall, Hidden Worlds isn't a bad gaming title from Disney. I don't think it will top Maleficent or the Where's My Water series from Disney, but it is worth checking out.

Rebels

Rebels is a new Windows Phone game from Disney that is based on the Star Wars Rebels television series. As one might guess, you are tasked with several missions that pits you against the evil Empire.

The game, also known as Star Wars Rebels: Recon Missions, is full of Stormtroopers, droids, blasters and light sabers. The game is not available for low-memory Windows Phones but is available for Windows 8 devices. While it is disappointing that Rebels lacks support for 512MB devices, in playing Rebels over the past few days, the game comes across as an appealing adventure game but a few stability issues and slow load times seems to hold this gaming title back a bit.

Rebels Menu

The main menu for Rebels is laid out with simplicity in mind. You have one button to access the settings and one to launch game play. Settings for Rebels offers up options to adjust the sound and music levels, view the credits, sync in-app purchases and view a very basic help screen.

Game play is level or mission based and when you first jump into game play, you are greeted by a tutorial mission. This mission will walk you through the basics of game play that includes movement and weapons controls.

Rebels Tutorial

Once you have completed the tutorial, game play will be based from Haven or base camp. From the Haven you can interact with other Star Wars Rebel characters to upgrade equipment, train your character, launch missions, check your achievements and more. You can move around Haven to interact or tap on the quick menu in the upper left corner of the screen to quickly jump between characters.

Rebels Haven

You can also build up your base camp as you rescue citizens by building extra shelters and accessories that are earned through game play.

Game play is arcade or platform based where you navigate your character across the gaming environment, collecting coins, blasting Stormtroopers, enemy droids and Bosses while rescuing citizens. The coins you collect are used to help the citizens you rescue, which in turn unlocks your character's abilities.

Rebels Game Play

Controls are on-screen overlays with two directional arrows to control movement in the lower left corner and a jump button and weapons control joystick in the lower right. When opportunities for dialog are present, the fire button changes to a conversation bubble.

Game controls are decent but I would have preferred to have seen a little more consistency with the design. You tap the directional arrows and jump button but have a joystick to control fire. Even though you can only move left and right, I couldn't help but think a movement joystick would feel more natural. Maybe it's just me but I often found myself tapping a control I should be sliding or sliding a control I should be tapping.

Your characters vital statistics are displayed in the upper left corner and an alert bar will appear in the upper right when danger is present. Underneath the icon of your player, any power-ups you have earned will be displayed and a teeny-tiny pause button rests besides this icon.

Rebels Battle

For the most part, actual game play has an arcade feel to it where you simply need to survive enemy blaster fire. You can use your weapons to ignite fuel barrels to help take out large groups of Stormtroopers and there are bonus coins that are hidden throughout each level.

You will also run across missions where you get to take control of heavy equipment such as an Imperial AT-MP that is fully equipped with rockets as well as its main blaster. Only downside is that you cannot stomp on the Stormtroopers.

Rebels

You can take a run and gun approach to playing Rebels, blasting everything in sight and racing to the end of the mission. However, there are some stretches of the game where you have to eliminate all the enemies before being able to advance. This feature adds to the challenge and helps give game time a little longevity.

Rebels Characters

While the character Ezra seems to be the game's main character, two additional characters are available with the add-on packets you can pick up through in-app purchase. Speaking of which, the free version of Rebels includes the first four missions. After which you will need to buy gaming packets and boost packs through in-app purchase that range in cost from $2.99 to $4.99.

Room for Improvement

Rebels IAP

While I liked the game, Rebels does have several issues that waters down the game's appeal and leaving some room for improvement.

  • Instability: In playing the game from a Lumia 830, I experienced game crashes during combat sequences and game transitions. Should the game crash while you are on a mission, all progress is lost.
  • Slow Load Times: Another performance issue is load times. From loading the game from the start to transitioning from the Haven to a mission, load times are noticeably slow.
  • Not Always Tablet Friendly: While there were load time and stability issues with the Windows Phone version, the Windows 8 version ran nicely. However, while it ran smoothly on the Microsoft Surface RT and laptop the game kept looking for a keyboard on the HP Stream 8 ( Stream 7's older brother).

Luckily, none of these issues are at critical mass. While the game does crash, it is not frequent enough to have you race to uninstall the game. While load times are slow, I've seen worse and I cannot tell if the issue with the HP Stream is due to the software or something quirky with the tablet.

Overall Impression

I'm a huge Star Wars fan. Saw Episode III a dozen times when it first hit the movie theaters and enjoyed every installment since. The Windows Phone Store has a nice collection of Star Wars related games and Rebels has the potential of being another great game in this collection.

Rebels

Game play is challenging, graphics are well done and the layout of the game isn't overly complicated. The game alone is would do the Force well but the Dark Side creeps into the picture with the stability issues and lengthy load times. I can't really gig the game for the quirky behavior on the HP Stream because it could very well be the tablet causing the problems and not the game.

I'm also on the fence about the in-app purchases required to get past the fourth level. I think the game's presentation would have been better if it was listed as a trial/$2.99 purchase. It's not a deal breaker but saying the game is free and then asking for three bucks to keep playing doesn't necessarily sit right.

Overall, if you are a Star Wars fan or simply looking for an entertaining arcade/platform Windows Phone/Windows game, Rebels is worth a try. Just keep in mind that once you get into game play, things can become addictive and Rebels will consume a good bit of battery life.

Dodo Pop Review - the latest, addictive Windows Phone and Windows 8 game from Disney

Dodo Pop

Dodo Pop quietly hit Store shelves late last month and is an addictive bubble styled game from Disney. Available for both Windows Phone and Windows 8 devices, you are tasked with helping a wayward Dodo Bird, Crash, find his way home.

There are dozens of puzzle levels to tackle, each with a limited number of moves and goals to reach. After taking the Windows Phone version of Dodo Pop out for a test drive, we found the game to have nice looking graphics, challenging game play and a fun way to pass the time.

Dodo Pop jumps right into game play upon first launch with Crash the Dodo Bird walking you through the basics of game play. Crash will show up throughout the game to introduce you to new gaming elements as they become available.

Dodo Pop Menus

The goal of Dodo Pop is to burst clusters of gumballs to reach the defined goals of each puzzle level. At the start of each level, Crash will outline the goals (pop a set number of colored gumballs, pop all the starred balls, etc.). Each puzzle also has a limited number of moves available to reach those goals. Run out of moves and you fail the level. A counter is displayed at the top of the gaming screen to help track your progress with the puzzle goals and how many moves are remaining.

Clusters have to be at least two gumballs that are touching and if things are close, there is a shake button in the lower left corner that will rattle the playing field. This will shift the gumballs ever so slightly were balls will touch, creating a cluster that can be tapped and removed.

Coins can be earned during game play or through an in-app purchase that can be used to buy power-ups. Power-ups include a rainbow button that will turn all the adjacent gumballs to the color of the center gumball, add bonus moves and a lightning strike that will remove one gumball. You also have a power-up that comes into play when you remove large numbers of the same colored gumball.

Dodo Pop Game Play

A meter will appear around the third level of the game that will increase as you remove the gumballs. Max out the meter any a bonus ball will come into play that when tapped/held will generate a rotating field. Let the field rotate and when you lift your hold, any ball of the same color that appears in this area will be removed.

Puzzle levels are mapped out, guiding Crash back to his home, Dodo Island. Each level can be replayed, but game play is limited to a degree with gaming tokens. You begin the game with five tokens and as long as you don't fail a level, you will not lose a token. Tokens are replenished over time or with your coins.

Game play is challenging through the first dozen or so levels but not too difficult. Around the 15th level, you begin to see things kick in with a rather challenging gaming goal. You have gumballs in play that are numbered. Those numbers dictate the size of the clusters you create and remove. For example, if an orange gumball has a 7 on it, you have to establish a group of at least 7 orange gumballs. The numbers seem to range from 5 to 30 and when you see the "30" gumball come into play, go ahead and reach for the lightning strike power-up to remove it from play.

Dodo Pop power-ups

Dodo Pop does have a few settings that can be accessed through the level map view or the main screen that will appear after your first launch of the game. Settings cover language choice and the customary terms of service and developer credit screens. While Dodo Pop is a universal game, there is no means to save your gaming progress across devices.

Overall Impression

Dodo Pop joins a crowded field of excellent Windows and Windows Phone games from Disney. Graphics are bright and colorful, game play challenging and Dodo Pop has a deceptively addictive pull about it. You can sit down with intentions of playing one or two gaming levels and before you know it, you've tackled half a dozen or more levels.

I'm not a big fan of the gaming token system. It can take the life out of any gaming rhythm you develop. I'd rather pay $.99 for the game and do away with the token system.

While I have enjoyed playing Dodo Pop, the game really needs some form of cloud saving to allow you to pick up game play where you left it from any of your devices.

There is room for improvement but as is, Dodo Pop is a fantastic game to have in your Windows 8 or Windows Phone gaming library. It is strong enough to help you waste short bits of time or keep you entertained for longer periods.
